Man, sometimes it is hard to be a gamer. I like games that are both smart and intriguing as well as games that are all about turning off your brain and having fun. I just wish there were more games of both types. Sometimes it feels like everything has to be about “kill this guy” or “maim that guy.“

Watch Dogs is a new game that Ubisoft showed at E3. It looked kind of neat! Sure, it wasn’t anything crazy intellectual, but it looked like you would be playing as a sort of heroic hacker guy with the ability to tap into all different kinds of electronic devices within a city. It was new and unique!

Then halfway through, it turns into the standard third-person shooter with machine guns blazing, dozens of guys getting shot up without consequence, etc. (Check out the cool parts of the trailer here and the boring shooting parts of the trailer here.)

The game might still be fun, but it just feels like a missed opportunity. I kind of want to grab the developers by their collective shoulders and shout “GUYS. WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH OF THESE GAMES. LET’S MAKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT.“

Anyway, that’s my rant of the day about stuff that doesn’t really matter. Have a good weekend, everybody!
