Sometimes you get the feeling that the company you work for doesn’t trust you at all. I recently had to turn in a receipt for a few beers and cigarettes for an old guy I was driving around (work-related, not just for fun) and I’m glad I don’t have to deal with the same corporate environment Greg does, or who knows what would have happened. I would’ve been out 12 bucks.
It’s hard to rail too hard against absurd bureaucracy when you’re convinced that it’s the main reason you’re still employed, though. If so many people weren’t on the payroll primarily to make sure everyone else is jumping through the requisite hoops, who knows what kind of job market Greg would be facing. Do we really want to risk all that?
For a free lunch without being hassled, the answer is definitely yes.
