Is… is this the sign of distance growing between Greg and Ted? Are they drifting apart, the small differences in their lives mounting and becoming unspoken awkwardnesses and failed attempts at making conversation? Should you be keeping your eyes peeled for some sort of subtext to that effect in future comics?
